Connecting your Star receipt printer

Connect your printer:

  1. Plug the Star Micronics printer directly into an available Ethernet port on your router and power up the printer.

  2. Make sure the receipt printer and iPad/Android device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. To change the Wi-Fi network on your iPad, navigate to your iPad's settings and tap "Wi-Fi" in the left sidebar.

  3. Open the Square App, log into your account, and swipe right from the left edge of the screen. Once in Square, open your Admin Panel. From the sidebar, tap Account, and then tap Settings. The Settings window (see right) should list Printers -- tap that and select the printer to be used.

  4. Tap "Receipt" from the left sidebar. Here you'll see all available receipt printers. Toggle the ON/OFF switch to "ON."

  5. To ensure that your receipt printer and iPad are connected to the same network, tap "Print Test."

If you'd like to connect multiple iPads to the same printer, follow these steps with each iPad. You can also connect multiple printers to the same iPad to print one receipt with multiple printers simultaneously.

Note: Your printer must have an Ethernet interface. You can order swappable interfaces but be sure to request the Ethernet connection type on your printer.

Tip: You can add several Square setups to use the same receipt printer. Just connect them to the same network and add the printer.

Optional step: connect your kitchen printer

You can manage orders with kitchen ticket printing by adding an impact printer such as the Star SP742ML

Connecting your Vasario cash drawer

When you set up a cash drawer with Square Register, it will automatically open when connected to a supported receipt printer for every cash transaction and refund on your iPad.

To connect a cash drawer to Square Register, you'll need to link it to your receipt printer. You'll need the CD-014A APG MultiPRO interface cable. Square Register supports any APG cash drawer in the Vasario Series that is equipped with a MultiPRO Interface #320 (24V).

The next time you accept a cash payment, your cash drawer will open when you tap "Tender Cash."

Troubleshooting your cash drawer:

If your drawer doesn't open when you tap "Tender Cash", please try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Printer is turned on and working

  • Check that the cable is plugged both the drawer and the back of the printer

  • Cable is correct (must be a Multipro type cable)

  • Drawer lock is in the normal unlocked position. (Check that it is not in the locked closed position.)
